Abstract
The recent storms, which threw Aberystwyth into the spotlight and most of the beach onto the prom, have brought debates about our vulnerability to extreme weather and climate change closer to home. In this presentation, we draw on the rich archive of documentary sources to identify episodes of past extreme weather in Wales. We examine how these events affected local communities, how they have been remembered and discuss how a historical perspective on the weather can provide insights into how we deal with extremes today.
