Research interests

Wide-ranging across the fields of carbonate sedimentology, diagenesis, palaeoecology, molluscs, the Jurassic System, and behaviour of building stones. Particular recent involvement in studies of modern and ancient marine hard substrates and bioerosion, and in the durability and weathering behaviour of north-west European limestones in the built environment.


Dr Tim Palmer joined the teaching staff in 1981 as Lecturer in Geology, from Geology Dept at Oxford University. Previously Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC. Retired as Senior Lecturer in 2001. Now Executive Officer of the Palaeontological Association and Consultant in Architectural Geology. Secretary of the Welsh Stone Forum.
