I work across disciplines and departments. I interact with industry and provide underpinning in IBERS for chemical and data analysis. My interests centre on plant cell wall biochemistry, and how architecture and chemical composition affect the efficiency of the conversion of plant feedstocks by thermochemical processes, fermentation by ruminants and also by commercial industrial processing. I am expert in chromatographic/ mass spectrometry, vibrational spectroscopy and imaging, thermochemical analysis, and statistical and chemometric data mining/ modelling. In the Depatment of Life Sciences, I coordinate the MSc in Biotechnology and I am Director of Taught Post-Graduate Studies. I teach at undergraduate and post graduate levels in biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmacology, and commercialisation.
